Story structure
Unlike many otome games I've played, my game does not have one common route and then lock you into a love interest's route that is wholly separate from all the others. I've played a lot of computer role-playing games in my life and I've been influenced by the way they handle romances. Namely, that there is an overarching narrative taking place and your love interest tags along with you through it. Also, your version of the common route will be different from another player's, as the choices you make will let you see different scenes and unlock different future scenes.
Certain events will always occur regardless of route, and the amount you participate in them depends on which route you are on. Sometimes you will be the catalyst of an event, other times a bystander. The love interests of course have unique events that dominate the second half of the game. There will also be chances to abandon the route you are on if you make certain choices.
My decision to write this many splintering paths has made the coding more complicated and I am trying my best to make sure all loose ends are tied up no matter how wild your choices are.
